Why is SEO an Ongoing Process?

A common misconception many business owners have regarding search engine optimization (SEO) is that they can “set it and forget it,” but this simply isn’t true. Unlike other services such as web design, web development and copywriting, there is no absolute beginning, middle or end. SEO is an ongoing process due to the fact that so many factors play a role in its success. No longer is SEO merely keywords and links, rather, sites that cater to users are rewarded.  Users’ needs are constantly changing, and your SEO efforts should evolve right along with your audience. SEO is a combination of marketing, growth and advancement acts. By neglecting SEO, you are putting your business in a position to stagnate.

Identifying the Need for Change

So, what does thunder::tech’s Optimization Team have in common with the artist formerly known as Prince? No, we can’t play multiple instruments. You’d be correct in your assumption that we haven’t won a Grammy. And you’re right, we can’t dance. But…we did recently change the name of one of our core services!

We offer two primary SEO services: an SEO setup, and an ongoing (typically monthly) service. The SEO setup is a one-time deal that includes a comprehensive optimization across new sites while they are in development. During this process, the Optimization Team collaborates with other teams including UX, Design, Application Development and Communications to ensure that the layout, content and programming are adherent to SEO principles. The SEO setup is recommended for new sites in order to best position it for future SEO success. The service most suitable after the initial setup, and for existing sites, is the ongoing SEO service.

This service was originally given the name “SEO Maintenance.” The dictionary can tell us exactly what maintenance means: “the process of maintaining or preserving someone or something, or the state of being maintained.” Now, let’s relate that to your website and SEO. Of course we want to maintain the current state of traffic, conversions, user engagement, and rankings, but we want to see growth and improvement of these aspects as well.

Renaming a Core Service

The label, SEO Maintenance, has not clearly communicated the tactics of this specific service and the value it provides, which is why we took the initiative to change the name. After hours of deliberation and debate, we finally determined the direction we will be taking. Drum roll, please! thunder::tech’s ongoing SEO service will now go by the name: Ongoing SEO Growth Services.

From the start, our ongoing service was designed to improve, advance, and ultimately grow website traffic and goals. We’ve never been interested in just maintaining the current status-quo. As an integrated agency, we rely on a holistic, inter-departmental approach to SEO, and we believe this format allows for maximum growth potential. By calling our service Ongoing SEO Growth Services, we feel we more effectively communicate what we can do for clients, and in effect, grow their businesses.
