Client Feature: Cleveland Clinic Laboratories

thunder::tech has a long-standing relationship with Cleveland Clinic Laboratories, reaching back to 2018. A key focus has always been on frequent upgrades and  continuous improvements of their website's overall experience. Our Web Development team has made feature updates big and small and recently launched an entire redesign of the search system; here's their journey.
 

Let’s get technical 

Built on WordPress, we placed the site behind a Sucuri firewall and utilized load-balancing servers and AWS configuration to ensure the site would pass Cleveland Clinic Foundations testing standards. As a nationally recognized healthcare system, it was imperative that the new website matched Cleveland Clinic Foundation’s brand and fit seamlessly in with their other sites.

A critical portion of the project included optimizing an application and search function for external healthcare providers. With the site directly impacting patient care, medical professionals needed easy access to it at all times of the day. This meant updates had to happen quickly and at designated times to avoid conflict with patient care. 

Cleveland Clinic Lab’s old search function scoured the entire website, resulting in many irrelevant search results for site users to sift through, making searching the site inefficient, frustrating and time-consuming. We divided the search function into three parts to solve this problem: Test Directory, Site and Supplies. Now site users can easily customize their search to get more accurate results quicker.
 
We also optimized the search algorithm to improve search speed over multiple fields of data. Each result is now weighted to determine the order they show up on the return. Overall, this new function leads to more relevant results and a better user experience for their customers. 

Aside from those more extensive projects, our Web Development team updated many other features to optimize CCL’s website for a more effortless user experience!
