Every year we take on a new adventure, a new path. There are new beginnings, some endings and a plethora of changes as well. For thunder::tech,
2019 was a big year and fitting to officially launch the beginning of the formal philanthropy committee we call right::angles!
Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s take a step back to the start. Something that thunder::tech is known for is the encouraged growth, individuality and opportunities for employees. Everyone has the ability to step out of comfort zones to make their own mark. So when the idea of a philanthropy committee was proposed by President Jason Therrien, several thunder::tech team members stepped up with a desire to make an impact.
The philanthropy committee started out with general brainstorms from the team. What do we want to do? How do we want to get involved? What should we call ourselves?
TAP – thunder::tech’s Army of Philanthropists
The philanthropy committee tested out the TAP name for a few months. There were a few fundraisers around a couple of our favorite things – animals and food. We donated to the
Cleveland Animal Protective League and
Food Bank. We also had some fun with local students while speed networking down the road from our headquarters at St. Martin De Porres High School. As the months went on, TAP would promote various “feel good” events in an effort to put a purpose to the committee.
After about six months, the committee decided to take a step back and reevaluate what types of things we found purpose in doing. After continuing to brainstorm, while also reevaluating what we have accomplished, education kept sticking. As one of thunder::tech’s core guiding principles, education felt like the right theme to follow, and we decided to focus on educating youth however we could. But would we still be the same committee with a new defined purpose? Or should we rebrand all together?
With a lot of thought, thunder::tech Art Director, Joe Cola, brought us “right::angles.” The name right::angles is derived from a couple of components. The first comes from the square portion in thunder::tech’s brand identity. Every square is composed of right angles. And right angles can be seen as a positive perspective and approach on life’s decisions, which is the second component to the name. As mentioned, our main mission is to help educate youth and give them the right angle on how they approach their future. We want to guide middle school, high school, college and postgraduate students in finding the right angles in life.
Now we continue growing as individuals and as a committee to make an impact on educating others while also educating ourselves. Our group is full of team members who are all unique in their own way, and that is what makes our committee great. We have several different personalities and interests and desires to contribute to our mission to educate. We don’t know where this next chapter takes right::angles, but we are certainly excited for it!
We are always looking for new opportunities to get involved. If you are reading this, and you think you may have something to contribute, please don’t hesitate to drop a line!
